Last week, Sebastian Daily conducted a poll to see what our readers think about the recent annexation. The poll was available to people who subscribe to the Newsletter.
The recent annexation included 1,118-acres of Graves Brothers Co. land into the city. The land is located on the south side of County Road 510.
Poll results:
- 57% – Do not support
- 26% – Support
- 17% – Don’t care either way
The 57% who are not in favor shows the recent controversy about the annexation in Sebastian. We were also surprised by the 17% who don’t care either way about the issue.
People living in Sebastian are worried about the environment, and this appears to be the consensus. There are also residents concerned about a population boom.
“I understand why, at first glance, people would be afraid of the annexation. None of us want to see this beautiful place change. Unfortunately, growth is inevitable, and in order to make sure Sebastian remains special, we must be in control of that growth and development. Now that we control that growth, we can make sure it doesn’t distract from the beautiful character this community has,” Mayor Jim Hill told Sebastian Daily.
The City of Sebastian annexed the property on August 28, 2019.
