Several residents in Sebastian asked us to investigate whether or not a Sam’s Club Superstore or Target Superstore is being built on the property at the corner of CR-510 and CR-512 (Sebastian Blvd).
Well, we have the scoop about both stores.
The property is in the county, and was never annexed to the City of Sebastian. So, if the county ever decides to build there, they will do so with or without the city’s approval.
A Sam’s Club spokesperson said there are no plans at this time to build a store at the location. A Target spokesperson also confirmed that there are no plans for a store in Sebastian at this time.
The county property is owned by Roland and Edwin Ansin of Ro-Ed, Corp out of Miami, Florida. They were the original developers of Vero Lake Estates.
The Ansin family sold a piece of their property to the Indian River School District, which is now the Sebastian River High School. And, more recently, they sold the land where the new Tractor Supply Company is located in Fellsmere near the I-95 interstate.
In fact, about 6,000 acres of their property were recently annexed to the City of Fellsmere.
Rumors of a superstore or business plaza being developed there in the future aren’t ruled out. As the area continues to grow, so will the business district.
