Residents blame Sun Communities for not resolving water issues at Pelican Bay in Micco

Pelican Bay

Residents in Pelican Bay have complained about ongoing water pipes breaking and having to boil their water for nearly two months.

We spoke with a few residents in the 55+ community. One told Sebastian Daily that her water quality has declined, and they keep going through repeated boil water notices.

The resident spoke on the condition of anonymity about the recent problems.

“On November 11th, we had a water main break, six hours without water, and then we were on a boil water notice for a few days. The night before Thanksgiving, at 11:52 p.m., we had no more water. That was two times in one month that we had water main breaks and no water, then boil water notices,” the resident explained.

“On Thanksgiving eve, I called the emergency number, and the maintenance man reluctantly came here. At about 6:30 a.m., the water was on again but with a boil water notice. This is severely inconvenient for those who were cooking or had company here in Pelican Bay,” the resident said.

“If you were cooking for Thanksgiving, you had to boil water for anything you were doing. There is no apology; there is no explanation. There is nothing. Everyone responsible is ‘on vacation’ and doesn’t really want to be bothered, including the Regional Manager of Sun Communities,” she added.

Sebastian Daily has spoken with other people living in Pelican Bay who had similar stories.

Sun Communities

Sun Communities, Inc. is a large real estate investment trust, developing and expanding manufactured home and RV communities since 1975. They have properties everywhere in the country.

We reached out to Sun Communities for comment, but we have not received a response.

Other residents in Pelican Bay have similar stories when dealing with Sun Communities. One allegedly called the maintenance line and was told there had been another water break. And there are several complaints about the company on Facebook.

Who’s Responsible for Water?

Ultimately, it’s the responsibility of Pelican Bay and Sun Communities to provide water service to its residents. The water is provided as a service that’s included in the lot fee.

“There are always new pipes being replaced. Our water has been unacceptable. Undrinkable, metal tasting. My bathtub leaked a bit for one day, and the result was rust all down the bottom of the tub. This happened this week.” a resident said.

So far, the boil notices continue, according to residents. They argue that the water coming out of the faucet is not clean.

Meanwhile, many of the Pelican Bay residents worry about Christmas and whether they will have water service or another boil notice. They feel the service and the water quality coming out of their sinks and tubs is unacceptable.
