It’s only a matter of time before gas prices are at $5 in Sebastian, Florida. For the first time ever, the national average cost for a gallon of gasoline has hit $5.
The average price for gas in Florida is now $4.89, but as of this weekend, areas like Palm Beach are paying $5. So consumers are now getting hit with high inflation and higher fuel costs without any sign of relief.
Here are the lowest fuel prices we found in Sebastian as of Sunday, June 12, 2022:
- $4.79 – Mobil (9490 90th Avenue/Corner of CR-510 and Sebastian Blvd)
- $4.87 – Murphy USA (Walmart)
- $4.89 – Cumberland Farms (957 Sebastian Blvd or 8090 U.S. Highway 1 in Micco)
- $4.89 – BP (10950 Sebastian Blvd)
- $4.89 – Sunoco (9020 Sebastian Blvd)
- $4.89 – Speedway 700 U.S. Highway 1
The national average price has jumped 19 cents in just the past week, and it is up $1.93 from this time last year. The higher fuel costs are taking a toll on people in Sebastian who need their vehicles to earn a living.
Small businesses that depend on fuel are losing money, telling Sebastian Daily that the prices are “becoming overbearing” to make ends meet.
The cost of filling up is draining money from families and retirees in Sebastian, facing the highest inflation rate in 40 years.
While this is the first time breaking the $5 barrier, it’s still not a record when inflation is taken into account. For example, gas peaked at $4.11 a gallon in July 2008, which would be equal to about $5.40 a gallon today.
But those numbers mean nothing to people living paycheck to paycheck. Most working-class families and retirees don’t always get raises to offset higher living costs.
