VERO BEACH – Florida Power & Light is working fast to restore power in several areas in Indian River County.

FPL officials expect to restore electricity to all Vero Beach customers by Sunday who lost their power during Hurricane Matthew.

Crews have been dispatched to various parts of Indian River County and are working around the clock to repair down power lines, but the company says that damage has been minimal.

More than 400,000 customers have already had their power restored on Florida’s coastline. FPL still has about 600,000 customers who are without power from West Palm Beach to Jacksonville.

FPL has approximately 15,000 workers deployed along the east coast of Florida. The company warns customers to stay away from downed power lines and to “steer clear of standing water” on the roads.

About 41,700 people lost power in Indian River County, but 15,900 customers were restored. There are still 25,800 without power.
