County Road 510 in Sebastian is scheduled to go from a two-lane rural road to a four-lane road in April 2020, according to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).
The CR-510 project will start from Sebastian Boulevard (CR-512) to the west 82nd Avenue.
The road is a vital evacuation route that will go from a flush shoulder rural roadway to a predominantly four-lane divided urban, curbed roadway with a 22-foot grass median, buffered bike lanes, and sidewalk facilities.
“The design will relax the sharp turn near the bridge over the lateral canal where 90th Avenue connects with 85th Street. It will create a smooth, easy-to-navigate curve,” FDOT said in a statement.
The old bridge will be demolished and replaced with a bridge culvert to be constructed over the lateral canal.
There will also be a closed drainage system, which will channel roadway water down the curb and gutters and into an underground pipe system. The water will be carried to nearby ponds for treatment.
Also, the existing signals will be upgraded to full pedestrian signals. Overhead street lightings will be provided at Sebastian River High School, Treasure Coast Elementary School, and the entrance to Vero Lake Estates.
GoLine stops along CR-510 will be upgraded to current standards throughout the corridor.
