The City of Sebastian has named Brian Benton as its interim City Manager following the council’s unanimous 4-0 vote. Councilwoman Kelly Dixon could not attend the meeting due to an excused absence.
This decision ensures a smooth transition as Paul Carlisle departs on June 9th. Benton, 40, brings extensive experience as the city’s Leisure Services Director for the past five years.
Starting immediately, Benton will assume the position with a probationary period of six months and an annual salary of $125,000.
Highly regarded by all five city council members, Benton has played a crucial role in overseeing community-wide activities, collaborating closely with the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee, and actively participating in on-site events.
Prior to joining the City of Sebastian, Benton served as the recreation supervisor for the town of Jupiter in Palm Beach County for 12 years.
He holds a Masters Degree in Public Administration and a Bachelors in Sports Management, along with certifications as a Parks and Recreation professional, FEMA Incident Management and Emergency Response, FDOT Traffic Control, DEP, and UF Best Management Practices for Florida Green Industries.
Benton’s expertise in project management, facilities management, and community outreach has been instrumental in securing his current position.
Despite residing in Palm City and commuting, Benton’s exceptional dedication and qualifications made him a valuable asset to the city when he was initially hired by Carlisle in 2018, with a starting salary of $84,000.
