Taco Chela, located at 1103 US-1 in Sebastian, has shut its doors after being open for almost a year. Their phone is shut off, and it’s listed as permanently closed on Google.
The landlord said the owner has some personal health issues that have “left her unable to continue running the restaurant as is necessary. We worked with Tacochela’s owner on finding a new business to come into their space that will be opening soon. We are sorry to see them leave and wish them better health and the best for the future.”
Last month, the health inspector shut it down for a day in March 2023 due to roach activity. They eventually passed their inspection, and things have been fine ever since.
The restaurant has a 4.1 Google review and a 5.0 rating on Yelp. Most of the reviews are positive. Many customers called it the best Mexican food around in Sebastian, naming it authentic.
But some reviews say they were closed on days when they were supposed to be open. One customer wrote a review six months ago saying they pulled up at 6:30 p.m. when they “turned the sign” around to say closed. The operating hours on the door said they were open until 8 p.m.
There was another review saying they had terrible service.
“The service, while they weren’t rude, it felt as if they were just there because they had to, and it showed in the food,” Gloria McConnell wrote.
Last year, Sebastian Daily published a review about the restaurant and said it should be a big success if it stayed consistent.
