VERO BEACH, Florida – A Sebastian woman was arrested at the Vero Beach Dillard’s because she thought she could steal and get away with it. But Indian River Mall security had her on their radar.
Cara J. Brown, 48, was seen by a female Loss Prevention Officer taking multiple items to the fitting room. As she came back out, her purse was “plumper than before,” the report said.
The officer checked the fitting room, and each time there were empty hangers and less merchandise than previously counted.
Brown did the same thing in the juniors and dress sections. The officer watched Brown as she walked through the cosmetics section, passing all points of sale before entering the mall.
Brown was apprehended and escorted to an office where the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office was notified about the theft.
In her purse, security recovered seven articles of clothing valued at $472.00.
Brown told deputies that a classmate told her she could steal from the mall “and not get caught.” She admitted to concealing the merchandise in her bag.
Brown was arrested and booked on a charge of Felony Grand Theft. She has since been released on $1,000 bail.
