VERO BEACH, Florida – A bartender at Rosie’s Pub called law enforcement Thursday night after a 70-year-old patron hit her in the head with a pool stick, according to the Vero Beach Police Department.
The patron, identified as Edith Carol McLaughlin, was upset after she was “cut off” from anymore drinking by the bartender, the affidavit said.
Rosie’s Pub, located at 1125 21st Street in Vero Beach, has a policy not to over-serve patrons when they are extremely intoxicated.
According to the bartender, McLaughlin broke a beer glass after being cut off. At the same time, a male patron wanted to buy McLaughlin a shot.
“[The bartender] informed him that if he purchased Mrs. McLaughlin a ‘shot’, she would kick both of them out of the bar,” according to the officer.
McLaughlin then allegedly spit at the male patron for not getting her a shot of alcohol, reports show.
The bartender then went to McLaughlin at which time she was hit by a pool stick and dragged to the ground. That’s when McLaughlin started to pull the bartender’s hair, the affidavit said.
“I did observe a raised bump in the middle of her forehead between her eyes which she stated was caused by Mrs. McLaughlin hitting her with the pool stick,” the officer said.
McLaughlin told police she was “attacked” and denied hitting the bartender with the pool stick. She was arrested and transported to the Indian River County Jail where she was charged with Battery.
McLaughlin was released Friday morning after posting $500 bond.
