VERO BEACH, Florida – One person was arrested by the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office after throwing food and causing a physical disturbance in front of a Vero Beach home.

Deputies received a call from one of the women involved in the physical altercation. Kim Torrent stated that she watched Theresa Rico, 61, pull into the driveway and “flip her off” as she parked her car.

When Torrent confronted Rico, she was pushed to the ground. Torrent said her glasses were broken during the scuffle.

Rico then grabbed a takeout container from her vehicle and started throwing food at Torrent. The two women had dirt and food on their clothing.

Witnesses in the Vero Beach neighborhood saw the two fighting in the driveway and food being tossed, but they did not see who touched who first.

The deputies explained that both parties would need to be arrested for battery unless they agree not to file charges against each other. At first, both parties agreed.

However, Rico became more upset, and when the deputy tried to give her a pen to sign the Declination of Intent affidavit, she knocked it out of his hand.

Rico was arrested and transported to the Indian River County Jail where she was charged with felony battery on a law enforcement officer.

DISCLAIMER: Arrests and mugshots were made public by complaint affidavits, arrest affidavits, and police reports. All persons arrested are innocent until proven guilty.
