VERO BEACH, Florida – A 37-year-old Sebastian man who’s already been arrested three times this year is back behind bars, according to the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office.
Jeremy Michael Avant is accused of causing a disturbance Tuesday at a CVS Pharmacy in Vero Beach. He was asked to leave several times, so the store manager called law enforcement to have him removed, the report said.
The CVS manager told deputies that Avant was inside the store yelling at customers and begging for money.
When law enforcement arrived, Avant put his fists into the air and asked one of the deputies if he wanted to fight.
“I observed that he appeared to be heavily intoxicated. Avant had a significant slur to his speech and had glassy, bloodshot eyes,” the deputy said. “At one point, Avant attempted to stand up and nearly fell over.”
Deputies made numerous attempts to contact Avant’s family members in Sebastian, but they either refused to get him, or they wouldn’t answer the phone.
Avant was then placed under arrest for disorderly intoxication. He then started banging his head and face against the partition inside the deputy’s cruiser, causing small lacerations to his face, according to the arrest affidavit.
“While on the way to jail, Avant screamed profanity and threats at me. Avant stated that he was going to get out of jail and find me. Avant also stated several times that he was going to kill me, that he would kill my family and my children, and that he would put a bullet through my head,” the deputy said.
Avant also told the deputy that he didn’t know who he arrested and stated “you’re done” several times. This was all recorded using the audio/video system in the vehicle.
After being processed at the county, Avant appeared in court soon after and was sentenced to 30 days in jail.
On Jan. 21, Avant was arrested for disorderly intoxication after he was found sleeping in the infant department at Walmart.
On Jan. 3, Avant was arrested for disorderly intoxication after he was urinating outside near the Bealls department store.
In late December, Avant was arrested for disorderly intoxication after he pulled his pants down inside a senior living facility in Vero Beach.
