VERO BEACH, Florida – On Tuesday at approximately 11:45 p.m., police received a call about a drunk pedestrian trying to climb the roof of The Patio restaurant and violently pulling on an iron bar fence alongside the restaurant.

Officers with the Vero Beach Police Department arrived and made contact with the suspect who was still at the location.

Daniel Carmin O’Neil, 22, immediately called one of the officer’s, who is African American, a “ni**er.” Officers smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath.

“While speaking to him and trying to gather information from the defendant, he became uncooperative and started to curse at myself and the other officers on scene,” the officer said.

The subject began to poke both officers in the chest and challenging them to a fight.

O’Neil was arrested for Disorderly Intoxication and transported to the Indian River County Jail for booking.
