GIFFORD, Florida – Deputies say a shooting Wednesday night in Gifford left one man dead next to his vehicle, according to the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting occurred at approximately 9:25 p.m. in the 4600 block of 38th Avenue.

Deputies located 29-year-old Don Phillips II, of Gifford, deceased beside a vehicle.

“Detectives responded to the scene and began canvassing the neighborhood, which has provided very little information,” Major Eric Flowers told Sebastian Daily.

Crime scene detectives processed the scene for forensic evidence. An autopsy is being performed today.

“Our detectives worked overnight speaking with neighbors and family members. Someone knows what happened last night and we need them to come forward with information. We will continue to seek justice in this case and get the killer off the streets,” Indian River County Sheriff Deryl Loar said.

Anyone with information should contact Detective Rob Ryan at 772-978-6104 regarding case 2018-174270. You can remain anonymous and possibly be eligible for a reward by contacting Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-800-273-TIPS (8477) or www.tcwatch.org.
