VERO BEACH, Florida – Police say three people were injured at The Grove after two men began punching patrons repeatedly.
Vero Beach police arrived at The Grove, located at 2115 14th Avenue, and were told two subjects were randomly punching multiple men and women in the face.
When one man tried to stop it, he was punched and then kicked on the ground repeatedly while unconscious. He was transported to the Indian River Medical Center for his injuries.
The two subjects, identified as 27-year-old Richard Dawayne Simmons and 25-year-old Brandon Gordon Owens, told police they were there to help out a friend.
However, multiple bystanders told officers that Simmons and Owens were the only two subjects fighting at the bar.
Simmons and Owens were arrested on Battery charges and transported to the county jail. Bond was set at $1,000 each.
While in the patrol vehicle, Simmons said “I had a hand in it too. I was kicking the fu** out of that cracker too,” which was recorded.
