SEBASTIAN, Florida – Police responded to a call in Indian River County to a Sebastian residence about a possible domestic disturbance.
Upon arrival, officers met with Clyde Hogate who made the call about his ex-wife, Julie Ann Hogate, 51. He said that when he went to his vehicle, he observed his ex-wife driving in the roadway and started cursing at him. She also wanted to fight his new girlfriend.
Clyde told police that Julie then stepped out of her vehicle with cardboard signs she created with slanderous vulgarities directed at him and his girlfriend.
When the girlfriend heard the commotion, she too stepped out of the home to see Julie with the signs. As Clyde stood between his girlfriend and his ex-wife, Julie threw a drinking glass of soda at her ex-husband. He was struck in the chest.
Julie then left the area in her vehicle, leaving behind the signs that had the various vulgarities written on them.
Deputies then visited Julie at her residence to collect her statement. She told police that she was upset with her ex-husband and his girlfriend. Julie made the signs to advertise her disapproval of their relationship.
She also explained that she made the signs to give to the property manager’s office where Clyde lived to let them know that his girlfriend did not meet the minimum age requirement for the development.
Julie said she never threw a glass, but only poured the soda on Clyde.
Police determined that she did in fact intentionally strike Clyde with the drinking glass during the argument.
Julie was booked for Battery domestic violence and transported to the Indian River County Jail.
