While trying to catch a wave in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, three surfers were bitten by sharks. All three of the victims were surfing in the same general area and were all bitten within two hours.

The first shark attack victim was a 43-year-old Longwood man, at approximately 10:45 a.m. He had significant lacerations on his lower leg. However, he doesn’t require surgery.

The second victim was not as lucky as the first. Chucky Luciano, 36, of Miami was bitten on both hands and had to undergo reconstructive surgery. He was attacked in the same general area as the first victim at around 11 a.m., just 15 minutes after the first.

“Thank you everyone for your prayers and support. Hand surgery went well and I’m waiting to get discharged. Just a very surreal and frightening day. Much love!,” Chucky Luciano wrote on his Facebook page.

The final shark attack of the day was at around 1 p.m., a little more than 2 hours after the second one. The victim was a 16-year-old surfer who was bitten on his inner thigh. His injuries were minor and did not require a hospital visit.
