FORT PIERCE – The Florida Mosque attended by the Orlando Pulse Nightclub shooter burst into flames around 12:30 a.m. on Monday.

The Fort Pierce Islamic Center, located at 1104 W. Midway Road, was the location where Omar Mateen went to pray before shooting up the gay nightclub on June 12. This ISIS-inspired attack left 49 dead and more than 50 injured.

Police are investigating this fire as arson, as they have video footage of an individual approaching the place of worship just seconds before the fire started.

Mosque leaders added extra security due to threats on the building in June, due to the actions of Mateen. They were expecting to have a large number of attendees on Monday morning to kick off the Eid al-Adha Islamic holiday.

Authorities are hoping to enhance the footage they have before releasing it to the public. The extent of the damage to the Mosque has not been determined.

There have not been any reported injuries.
