MELBOURNE, Florida – The Melbourne Police Department responded to a traffic accident with serious injuries to a victim early Thursday in the area of Race Street and Horne Street.

Officers arrived on the scene and learned that a hit and run had occurred. Witnesses told officers that the accident stemmed from a road rage incident between two drivers.

Kathy Jones, 53, ran over the victim with her pickup truck and sped away. Melbourne police conducted a traffic stop on the truck a short distance away.

The victim, who goes by the street name “Tennessee,” was taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center and is in stable condition.

Witnesses told police that the victim, who drove a white Mazda, got out of her vehicle several times at the intersection and yelled at Jones to stop following her.

The victim got back in her Mazda, but Jones cut her off by pulling her truck ahead of her, which prompted the victim to step out again. Jones put the truck in reverse and ran over the victim, according to police.

Jones was taken into custody and charged with Aggravated Battery with a Motor Vehicle. She is being held at the Brevard County Jail in lieu of $30,000 bond.
