MELBOURNE, Florida – A pedestrian was struck and killed by a train just before 5:30 a.m. Tuesday morning on Post Road near U.S. 1.
Melbourne Police said the victim had not been identified, and no other injuries to were reported.
Forensic workers investigated the scene and eventually reopened the road for motorists to cross the tracks.
The incident becomes the third fatal train accident involving a pedestrian to be reported this year. It’s also the second to take place in Melbourne.
In August, a pedestrian was killed by a passing train near the 900 block of Sunset Dr. in Melbourne.
A witness said a middle aged white male was seen walking on the bridge and saw the train coming. The pedestrian turned back one last time and never tried to get out of the way.
The train knocked the man off the bridge and into the water where police located the body.
