LAKE COUNTY – A Lake County inmate died of cardiac arrest while in police custody at the hospital on Sunday. Jamey Jones, 24, was arrested on Friday during a traffic stop. She had a warrant for uttering a forged check, and grand theft.
According to Sheriff’s Office spokesman Fred Jones, the arresting officers noticed she was wearing a bracelet from the hospital. When she was asked about it, she stated that she recently left the hospital after a visit for sciatic pain.
Paramedics were called to the scene and cleared Jones to be taken to the Lake County Jail.
The following day around 5 p.m., the inmate began to complain that she was having sciatic pain again. Within 15 minutes of her complaint, an ambulance was taking her to the hospital. On Sunday, at approximately 3 a.m., she died of cardiac arrest.
There will not be an investigation by The Florida Department of Law Enforcement since Jones had been at the hospital for many hours before she passed away.
