VERO BEACH – Three homeless people were causing a disturbance at Pocahontas Park in Vero Beach after they were fighting over a bottle of vodka.
The Vero Beach Police Department responded after receiving the call. Officers spotted three people, highly intoxicated, near the bathroom area of the park.
Jessica Yambor, 35, was chasing after a male, identified as Steven Roy. Officers also made contact with James Jones, also homeless. Jones said they were fighting over a bottle of vodka.
Roy told police that Yambor struck him “in the left side of his face and then both Yambor and Jones struck him several more times,” according to the report.
All three individuals were highly intoxicated. The park was also occupied with children during the altercation.
Yambor said that Roy “snatched” the bottle of vodka from her hand “and was struck by Roy at which point she struck Roy,” the report said.
But then Jones stated that he hit Roy only after he saw Yambor get hit. Officers reported that they observed Yambor and Jones actively pursuing Roy when they arrived.
All parties involved were issued trespass warnings for the Park.
Yambor was belligerent and obviously angry that Roy took her vodka. She was cursing and threatening him.
Once police separated all parties, they were given multiple warnings about being disorderly in public. Yambor then told officers “take me to jail,” so she was placed under arrest.
Yambor was transported to the Indian River County Jail where she was charged with disorderly intoxication.
