VERO BEACH – An employee at Tommy Hilfiger wanted to make customers happy by giving out multiple coupons to discount their purchases, reports show.
Deputies responded to the Vero Beach Outlets Wednesday in reference to an employee stealing from the Tommy Hilfiger store.
The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office arrested 18-year-old Devan Migal Hughes and charged him with Felony Grand Theft.
The store manager told deputies that Hughes has been giving out multiple coupons to customers in order to discount clothing they purchased, the affidavit said.
Tommy Hilfiger employees are directed to give one coupon per customer. The manager said Hughes gave away $1,263.74 in coupons to customers during the past two weeks, the report said.
“Hughes stated he knew it was wrong to give the customers additional coupons but wanted to make them happy,” the deputy said.
Hughes was transported to the Indian River County Jail. A judge released Hughes and ordered him to either be at work or home until his arraignment, which is scheduled for Nov. 28, 2018.
