SEBASTIAN – A video showing two Indian River County Sheriff’s Deputies arresting a student at the Sebastian River High School has gone viral on Facebook.
On Monday, a student was arrested on campus in front of several bystanders as the incident was recorded.
At the beginning of the video, a student is seen between two deputies. A few seconds later, the student is forced to the ground and is arrested. Some people say he resisted arrest, others say the student didn’t do anything but walk with the deputies.
Apparently, all of this took place after a fight involving the student and one other person on campus.
The video itself doesn’t show what happened prior, but some witnesses said the student was told to leave the area. When he didn’t leave, the deputies arrested him.
It appears as though while on the ground, the student still refused to place his hands behind his back for the two deputies. A third person, who appears to be a staff member at the school, can be seen assisting the officers.
Story continues after video:
We reached out to the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office, but they have no comment at this time.
The heated debate is whether the arrest involved excessive force, or if the student was resisting.
