SEBASTIAN – A 23-year-old man was arrested in Sebastian after calling his girlfriend a “fat lazy cu**” and then allegedly choking her.

Nicholas Vonier woke up his girlfriend and asked her to heat up some food for him. She asked him if he wanted chili or something else, but he “called her a ‘fat lazy cu**,'” the Indian River County Sheriff’s report said.

Vonier then began poking her in the face and grabbed her by the jaw. The victim told deputies that he proceeded to grab her by the throat and “choked her to the point where she could not breath for an unspecified period of time,” according to the report.

The victim said she tapped Vonier while he was choking her. He eventually let her go. She began to cough and gag after the incident.

Deputies observed a line across the victim’s neck, but it is unknown if the mark was related to choking.

Vonier told deputies that nothing physical happened. He stated that he woke up and told his girlfriend that he was hungry, and that she complained to him.

Vonier told his girlfriend that he “makes the money and she can’t make him a bowl of chili,” the report said. He asked her to leave, and she appeared upset that he did not follow her out of the home.

A witness in the home saw Vonier and his girlfriend in an argument, and that he grabbed her by the arms to keep her from leaving the residence.

Vonier was arrested and transported to the Indian River County Jail where he was charged with Aggravated Battery Domestic Violence by Strangulation. No bond set.
