SEBASTIAN – The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office was called to a mobile home in Sebastian about a disturbance involving two men.

According to the victim, he and his brother Charles Jewell, 26, were on their way back home from the Indian River Tax Collector’s Office where he failed the written exam to apply for his Florida driver’s license.

The victim told Jewell, who was driving, that he was supposed to help him study for the exam and never did.

As the two were talking, it escalated into a verbal argument while heading back to their residence.

The victim became so angry that he grabbed the steering wheel in an attempt to get Jewell to pull over so that they could settle their argument out of the vehicle.

Jewell was able to maintain control of the vehicle and drove to the residence.

Once there, the two were in a physical altercation. Jewell repeatedly punched the victim several times in the face, according to the report.

Deputies observed a “severely swollen and bloody” face on the victim. The victim said he believed his nose and jaw were broken.

Paramedics transported the victim to the Sebastian River Medical Center where he was examined.

The ER doctor told deputies that the victim might have numerous broken bones to his face which could be a permanent disfigurement, the report said.

Jewell said his brother did fail the Florida driver’s license exam and was so agitated that he attempted to punch him while driving the vehicle.

He said he blocked the punch, but his brother didn’t stop there. Instead, he grabbed the steering wheel and tried to “drive the vehicle into a telephone pole, but he was able to keep control of the vehicle,” he told deputies, according to the report.

Jewell did have redness to the left cheek and deputies observed blood all over his right hand.

Jewell was arrested and transported to the Indian River County Jail where he was charged with Felony Aggravated Battery/Domestic Violence.

On the way to jail, Jewell told deputies, “I take full responsibility for my actions because I am a man!”
