SEBASTIAN – The Sebastian Police Department received a call about a loud disturbance coming from a Sebastian residence.

Upon arrival, the officer could hear two people yelling inside the home from the street. As the officer approached the front of the house, he looked through the front window and observed the disturbance.

Jose Roca, 60, was yelling at his wife as he sat in a chair. Roca yelled obscenities as he made obscene hand gestures at her.

Roca then stated “all bets are off” and stood up with a couch pillow in his hand. He then began to strike her several times with the pillow. Roca then threw the pillow at his wife and hit her several times with an open hand.

The officer then knocked on the door and explained that he witnessed him striking his wife. But Roca said, “it was only with a pillow” and that he and his wife do that “sort of behavior all the time.”

The wife told the officer they had been drinking and arguing. She stated that her husband hit her but “that it wasn’t that bad.”

Roca was arrested and transported to the Indian River County Jail where he was charged with Battery Domestic Violence.
