On Saturday morning at approximately 5:00 a.m., deputies received a call about a man sleeping on Highway A1A near Grand Harbor Beach Club in Vero Beach.

According to the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrived at the location and found a man laying on the sidewalk adjacent to A1A.

“The male appeared to be sleeping. As I approached the male, I smelled a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage,” the deputy said.

The man, identified as 46-year-old Jayson Powell, said he was tired after riding his bicycle and decided to stop to take a nap near the sidewalk, the affidavit said. Powell told deputies that he was riding his bicycle to Miami, but pointed north every time.

Powell said he only had three beers earlier. He was arrested for Disorderly Intoxication and transported to the Indian River County Jail.
