VERO BEACH – A woman who was visiting the Indian River County Jail Thursday was arrested for DUI after leaving the parking lot, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Jamie Karen Thorsen, 62, was visiting the lobby at the jail and appeared to be intoxicated, according to the arrest affidavit. She was told by deputies not to drive her vehicle.
Deputies observed Thorsen a short time later driving a white Audi on 41st Street and Indian River Boulevard in Vero Beach, according to the report. The deputy initiated a traffic stop and made contact with Thorsen.
“I asked her why she was driving after she was told not to drive. As I talked to her I could again smell an odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from her breath,” the deputy said.
After submitting to standard field sobriety tests, the deputy determined Thorsen was too impaired to drive. She was transported back to the county jail where she was charged with DUI.
Thorsen provided two breath samples which were .104 and .116.
