VERO BEACH – Two adult men were arrested for harboring three teenagers at a homeless camp in the woods behind the Vero Beach Publix.

The Vero Beach teenagers were ages 13, 15, and 17. All three were reported missing by the Hibiscus Children’s Center. Deputies from the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office received a call about the juveniles being at the camp.

As deputies entered the camp, they found the three teens smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol surrounded by two adult males.

The men were identified as 45-year-old Peter Brian Jankowski and 43-year-old Dwayne John Gordon. Another individual who calls herself “Mama” at the camp told deputies that the men knew about the juveniles. She said the teenagers were supposed to be at Hibiscus Children’s Center and that they’ve been harboring them, according to the report.

Jankowski was so intoxicated that “that he could barely walk and would not give us a statement,” the report said. When an attempt was made to place him into custody, he told deputies, “fu** you, I didn’t do anything.” Deputies had to physically pull him off a tree in order to place him into custody.

When deputies tried to place Gordon under arrest, he yelled “fu** you” and “I got you pig.” As Gordon scuffled with deputies, he shouted: “You don’t want none of this, you punk a** mother*******.” After several minutes of fighting in the woods in Vero Beach, Gordon was placed into custody.

Jankowski and Gordon were transported to the Indian River County Jail where they were each charged with one count of resisting arrest, and three counts of contributing delinquency of a minor.
