Last Wednesday, around 6:15 in the evening, a woman from Sebastian crashed into a telephone pole while driving drunk with a kid in the car. The accident happened on Community College Parkway in Palm Bay and resulted in a telephone pole being split into two pieces.
When the police arrived, they spoke with a witness who said the woman was driving with a child in the car. According to the affidavit, the witness thought the driver seemed “out of it,” so they called the police right away. Sadly, the child sustained an injury to their chin from the crash.
The woman driving the vehicle was identified as Taylor Anne Fink, 24, of Sebastian. The police noticed that Fink acted confused when the Fire Rescue team talked to her. This behavior, along with the strong smell of alcohol on her breath, made the police think she was impaired.
Officers conducted Standard Fields Sobriety Tests and determined she was impaired. Fink told the police that she had been drinking vodka while driving with the child in the vehicle.
When Fink provided a breath sample, it registered .266, more than three times the legal limit. She was arrested and transported to the Brevard County Jail, where her bail was set at $4,000.
Fink was charged with:
- DUI
- DUI Damage to Another Person
- Child Neglect Without Great Bodily Harm
- Resisting Officer Without Violence
The crash caused $20,000 worth of damage to the telephone pole, said Florida Power & Light.
The police did not give any more details about the child.
